Learn Education: Blended Learning Solution for Progressive Learning

    CIO VendorTanin Timtong , Co-founder & MD

High student dropout rates, lack of qualified teachers, and low parental engagement are some of the challenges facing Thailand’s education systems. Students that remain in the system often finds it challenging to engage with important concepts when it comes to learning math and science. However, the same knowledge delivered via animation and/or infographics may result in higher engagement levels. To address these challenges, Learn Education, headquartered in Pathumwan, Bangkok, provides a Total Blended Learning Solutions that bridge the gap between students and teachers while encouraging interaction between them.

Teachers sometimes lack the necessary qualification to deliver quality teaching, or they are piled up with administrative work and other responsibilities that derail them from their main objective, to teach. Learn Education addresses with these challenges—ensuring better teaching experience, attention, and engagement of students. Learn Education provides a one-to-one blended learning platform that helps teachers improve their skills, and support them with their administrative duties to provide more individual attention to students. Strengthening teacher-student relationships and overall student motivation and achievement, the Blended Learning Solution encompasses digital content, assessment, non-digital materials and teacher training.

The digital platform, which is aligned with the school’s core curriculum comes with text books and high-quality videos and animations, enables student learning and engagement while allowing teachers to attend to individual students rather than an entire classroom of 50-60 students. By co-ordinating with various education authorities, co-ordinating integrated content providers teaches with a balance of digital and non-digital media. Furthermore, real-time assessments are carried out with pre- and post-tests to measure individual performance. The assessments keep track of each student’s grades while allowing teachers to evaluate the student's data individually. The data helps teachers to plan their lessons accordingly—providing feedback for both the students as well as the teachers.

We leverage the ‘Human side of the Ed- Tech’— delivering Integrated Content, Real-Time Assessments, and School Implementation through our Blended Learning Solution

A key part of Learn Education’s methodology is highlighting the “Human Side of EdTech”. Learn Education has integrated technology in teaching and learning systems in schools to address the lack of quality instruction while delivering digital learning solutions to students. “Incorporating engineering and technology, we leverage the ‘Human side of the Ed-Tech’—delivering Integrated Content, Real-Time Assessments and School Implementation through our Blended Learning Solution,” says Tanin Timtong, Co-founder and Managing Director of Learn Education. This is represented by a comprehensive implementation process where teachers are introduced to other teachers to share ideas and teaching techniques with each other. Learn Education supports teachers with planned lessons, class observation, and hosting conferences. Teacher training includes sharing best learning practices from the experts in the field as well as operational support for executing lessons via Learn Education’s Blended Learning Solution.

Identifying root causes in the problems that plague Thai education, boosting student engagement and lowering the drop-out rate, Learn Education strives to lower the inequity in access to quality education. In one case, a school in Suphanburi, 100 km from Bangkok, had a destitute ranking in terms of their teaching staff. Lack of qualified teachers and the inability to employ teachers made the school seek help from Learn Education. With Learn Education’s Blended Learning Solutions, the school underwent a remarkable transformation and evolved as a winner.

Moving forward, Learn Education aims to serve one million students in the next three years and will be expanding to other countries in Southeast Asia. The team also looks forward to improving it's learning platforms to achieve higher quality and more equitable access to quality content in Mathematics, Science, and English education in Thailand and Southeast Asia. However, being a Social Enterprise Company, one of Learn Education’s objectives is to help the underprivileged schools and students, especially in upcountry areas, to access the quality education by using technology.

This mission cannot be achieved alone. Learn Education is continually on the lookout for philanthropic donors who want to make an impact. Learn Education has partnered with many generous donors who have provided both financial and in-kind support (i.e., computer hardware) to help the organization reach its objective of positively impacting the lives of one million students annually, by 2020.
